THE WOMEN'S CONVENTION - RECLAIMING OUR TIME
The Women's Convention took place on October 27-29
2017 in Detroit, Michigan and was organized by the leaders
of the Women's March, the 21 January protest that turned
into one of the largest mass demonstrations in US history.
Open to everyone and aiming to push forward the
nascent Resistence movement as well as to translate
energy into electoral successes during the 2018 midterm
elections, about fourthousand women and some men
attended for a weekend of workshops, panel discussions,
strategy sessions, forums and intersectional movement
building at the spacious Detroit Cobo Center. The con-
vention also offered spaces for Healing and Self-Care,
Yoga and Meditation classes and an Art Exhibition cur-
ated by Amplifier.org.
A wide range of diverse speakers - activists, politicans,
grassroot leaders - adressed the conference, among them
Congresswoman Maxine Waters who inspired the con-
ventions theme phrase "Reclaiming Our Time".
A Statement from the organizers:
"We do this work out of love-for each other, for the
movements that came before us and for the freedom
fighters that will follow us. We commit to working to-
gether towards the collective liberation of women of all
races, ethnicities, ages, disabilities, sexual orientations,
gender expressions, immigrant statuses, religions and
economic statuses."
